CloudAdvisor
A Tuscany Region funded Project
Artificial Intelligence for the Optimization of Cloud Processes (CloudAdvisor)
The migration to the cloud is an ongoing phenomenon that, in the coming years, will see a marked increase in the number of companies adopting this technology. According to Gartner's forecast, the cloud market will grow from 500 billion dollars in 2022 to 1.25 trillion by 2027. Despite the advantages of cloud adoption, which explain this growth, the cloud pricing model is characterized by inherent inefficiencies, including: i) over-provisioning (allocating more resources than strictly necessary); ii) failure to remove unused resources; iii) application errors or applications not optimized for the cloud. Gartner estimated a waste of 27 billion dollars in 2021, approximately 10% of the total cost incurred that year.
On a regional scale, according to the 2021 Annual Report of the Tuscany Region, 57% of companies purchase cloud services, and 20% conduct online sales. These figures confirm how much Tuscan companies rely on digital tools and how the costs they incur—proportional to the energy resources consumed to produce them—are significant. The economic waste due to unnecessary resources also results in energy waste: optimizing the use of cloud resources not only helps companies save money, but also contributes to their sustainability by aiding in achieving carbon neutrality and making their production processes more sustainable.
The purpose of this project, which aligns with the goals of the 2030 Agenda of the Tuscany Region, is to provide an opportunity to ensure long-term, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth for regional businesses. To achieve these goals, the project will leverage the latest methodologies in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence based on artificial neural networks, using a data-driven approach.
The project partners offer complementary characteristics and skills that support the achievement of the project’s objectives. Sintra Consulting is a Tuscan leader in the development of software solutions serving small and medium-sized enterprises in the region. The University of Pisa has decades of experience in applying advanced Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning methodologies to Data Management and Cloud Computing.
